Introduction
INTRODUCTION ABOUT THEMISET INJECTIONTHEMISET INJECTION contains Palonosetron which belongs to a group of medicines called Serotonin antagonists. It is used to control nausea and vomiting that occurs as a result of chemotherapy (management of cancer). THEMISET INJECTION is also used for Postoperative nausea and vomiting following surgery. Inform your doctor before receiving THEMISET INJECTION if you have or had heart diseases or a family history of heart diseases such as QT prolongation (changes in heartbeat) or congestive heart failure, slow heartbeat or conduction disturbances, acute bowel obstruction or chronic constipation or unmanageed electrolyte imbalances like potassium and magnesium in the blood. THEMISET INJECTION is not recommended for use in pregnancy unless clearly necessary as it is not known whether it may cause harm to the unborn baby. Contact your doctor before receiving it. THEMISET INJECTION should be used with caution as it is not known whether it may pass through the breast milk. Contact your doctor before receiving THEMISET INJECTION. THEMISET INJECTION should not be used in children below 1 month of age for managing nausea and vomiting due to chemotherapy and safety and effectiveness have not been established in children under 18 years of age for managing postoperative nausea and vomiting after surgery. How It Works
THEMISET INJECTION blocks the action of serotonin, which induces nausea and vomiting (serotonin is a chemical that carries messages between nerve cells in the brain and throughout the body).
Directions for Use
THEMISET INJECTION will be injected intravenously into your body only by your doctor or nurse. Your doctor will administer the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
Side Effects
THEMISET INJECTIONCOMMON headache (both in adults and children) dizziness constipation diarrhoea heart rhythm changes (QT prolongation) or slow heartbeat UNCOMMON changes in blood pressure irregular heart rate or lack of blood flow to the heart widening or change in colour of veins changes in potassium levels in the blood increased levels of sugar in blood or urine low calcium levels in the blood increased bilirubin increased levels of liver enzymes anxiety difficulty sleeping loss of appetite weakness, tiredness and fever or flu-like symptoms skin numbness, burning, prickling, tingling, itchy skin or rashes eye irritation or impaired vision motion sickness tinnitus (ringing in the ear) hiccups, flatulence, dry mouth, indigestion, stomach ache difficulty in passing urine aching joints dizziness, jerky body movements, abnormal heart rate, cough and shortness of breath, nosebleed, hives, fever, pain at the injection site (in children) RAREStop receiving THEMISET INJECTION and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects: severe allergic reactions such as hives, swollen face, difficulty breathing, chest pain

DRIVING AND USING MACHINESDo not drive or operate any machines if you feel dizziness or tiredness after receiving THEMISET INJECTION. ALLERGYDo not receive THEMISET INJECTION if you are allergic to Palonosetron or any other constituents of this medicine. HEART DISEASETHEMISET INJECTION should be used with caution in patients with heart diseases or a family history of heart diseases such as QT prolongation (changes in heartbeat) or congestive heart failure, slow heartbeat and conduction disturbances. Contact your doctor before receiving THEMISET INJECTION. OTHERSBefore receiving THEMISET INJECTION tell your doctor if you have: acute bowel obstruction or chronic constipation improper balance of minerals such as potassium and magnesium in the blood (unmanageed) Use in pediatrics: THEMISET INJECTION should not be used in children below 1 month of age for managing nausea and vomiting due to chemotherapy. Safety and effectiveness in children and adolescents below the age of 18 years have not been established for managing postoperative nausea and vomiting after surgery. Drug Interactions
SA. Drug-Drug Interactions: Before taking this medicine, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine: medicines used to manage depression and anxiety (fluoxetine, paroxetine, sertraline, fluvoxamine, citalopram, escitalopram, venlafaxine, moclobemide, mirtazapine duloxetine) medicines used in cardiac disorders (amiodarone, nicardipine, quinidine) moxifloxacin, lithium, erythromycin (medicines used for bacterial infections) medicines used for serious mental disorders (haloperidol, chlorpromazine, quetiapine, thioridazine) domperidone (used for managing nausea and vomiting) fentanyl, tramadol (medicines used for severe pain) intravenous methylene blue (medicines used to manage methemoglobinemia) Overdosage: THEMISET INJECTION will be administered intravenously into your body by the doctor only so there is minimal chance of overdose. Symptoms of overdose are fits, gasping, pallor, cyanosis and collapse.
