Before taking TAFMUNE EM TABLET, inform your doctor if you have any flu-like illness, kidney, heart or liver problems, hepatitis B or other sexually transmitted infections. TAFMUNE EM TABLET should be used with caution in pregnant women only if advised by the doctor. Breastfeeding is not recommended while taking TAFMUNE EM TABLET as it can pass into breast milk. The most common side effects of taking TAFMUNE EM TABLET are nausea, headache, dizziness, diarrhoea, stomach pain and tiredness. Consult your doctor if any of the above side effects worsen. USES OF TAFMUNE EM TABLET Manage human immunodeficiency virus 1 (HIV-1) infection (in adults and adolescents (aged 12 years and older) along with other medicines) Reduces the risk of getting HIV infection (in adult and adolescent men who have intercourse with men) HOW TAFMUNE EM TABLET WORKSTAFMUNE EM TABLET helps to control HIV infection, where tenofovir alafenamide gets subsequently phosphorylated to the pharmacologically active metabolite tenofovir diphosphate and emtricitabine gets phosphorylated by cellular enzymes to emtricitabine triphosphate. These metabolites inhibit HIV replication through incorporation into viral DNA by the HIV reverse transcriptase, which results in DNA chain-termination.
