Introduction

INTRODUCTIONSELGIN contains Selegiline which belongs to the group of medicines called Anti Parkinsonian drugs. It is used to manage Parkinson's disease, with or without other medicines like levodopa. Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a progressive degenerative disorder, mainly characterized by uncontrollable movements such as shaking, muscle stiffness, and difficulty with balance and coordination. SELGIN is not recommended for use in patients with stomach or duodenal ulcers and suffer from movement or muscle disorder unrelated to parkinson’s disease. It is also important for you to inform your doctor if you are taking any medicines for depression, migraine, severe pain or any other conditions. Before taking SELGIN, inform your doctor if you have any kidney, liver or heart problems (such as chest pain, palpitation or an abnormal or erratic heartbeat and uncontrolled high blood pressure), history of stomach ulcers, any scheduled planned surgery or if you are getting manageed for mental health problems (like anxiety or sleep issues). How It Works

SELGIN works by inhibiting monoamine oxidase type B (MAO-B) and increases the amount of dopamine (which is decreased in parkinson’s disease) in the brain, thus improving the symptoms of parkinsonism.

Directions for Use

Take SELGIN as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition. Do not stop taking SELGIN unless your doctor advises you to stop.

ALLERGYDo not take SELGIN if you are allergic to Selegiline or any other ingredients of this medicine. HEART DISEASESELGIN should be taken with caution in patients with uncontrolled high blood pressure, chest pain, palpitation (sensation of feeling the heartbeat), or an abnormal or irregular heartbeat. OTHERSSELGIN is not recommended for use if you: have stomach or intestinal ulcers have a movement or muscle disorder unrelated to Parkinson’s disease Before taking SELGIN, inform your doctor if you: are being manageed for any mental illness, anxiety, or sleep disorders have a history of stomach ulcers, any unusual urges or behaviours (such as gambling or extreme sexual behaviour) are going to have any surgery Use in geriatrics: SELGIN should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 65 years and above) as they might have an increased risk of getting side effects. Drug Interactions

SBefore taking SELGIN, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines: other medicines used to manage parkinson’s disease (Ex. amantadine, dopamine, levodopa) medicines used to manage depression (Ex. citalopram, escitalopram, fluoxetine, fluvoxamine, paroxetine, sertraline, venlafaxine, amitriptyline, protriptyline) medicines used to manage severe pain (Ex. pethidine, codeine, tramadol, buprenorphine) linezolid (used to manage bacterial infections) medicines used to manage asthma or to relieve nasal congestion (Ex. ephedrine, salbutamol, terbutaline) medicines used to manage migraine (Ex. sumatriptan, naratriptan, zolmitriptan, rizatriptan) medicines used to manage mood or mental illness (Ex. lithium, valproic acid) medicines to manage anxiety, sleep problems or to relax the gut muscles (Ex. alprazolam, clonazepam, diazepam) medicines used as part of anaesthesia (Ex. ketamine, propofol) medicines used to manage heart failure (Ex. digitalis) and high blood pressure (Ex. metoprolol) or low blood pressure (Ex. phenylephrine) medicines used to prevent or manage blood clots (Ex. warfarin, heparin) HRT (hormone replacement therapy) (Ex. conjugated estrogens) altretamine (used to manage cancer of the ovaries) medicines used to prevent pregnancy (Ex. desogestrel, ethinyl estradiol) B. Drug - Food interaction: Avoid eating certain foods rich in tyramine (Ex. mature cheese, broad beans, bovril, yeast extracts, fermented soya bean products) while taking SELGIN. Overdosage: If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of SELGIN, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose are agitation, irritation, restlessness, tiredness, severe headache, shaking, high or low blood pressure, trouble breathing, breathlessness, feeling situations, visions or sounds which are not actually there (hallucination), dizziness, rapid irregular heartbeat, chest pain, severe muscle spasms, fever, too much sweating, loss of consciousness and fits.
