It also eases the pain which is associated with the evacuation of stools. Milk of magnesia causes the stomach acid to neutralise and acts as laxative by drawing in more water into the intestines which softens the stools and increases its volume as well. Sodium picosulphate is activated by the bacteria present in the digestive tract. It increases the accumulation of water in the intestine and also increases the movements of intestine.
