Introduction

INTRODUCTION ABOUT MITOMYCIN 40 INJECTIONMITOMYCIN 40 INJECTION contains Mitomycin which belongs to the group of medicines called Antineoplastic agents. MITOMYCIN 40 INJECTION is used in cancer therapy to manage and provide relief from symptoms of advanced/metastatic stomach, breast, and pancreatic cancer. MITOMYCIN 40 INJECTION is also used to manage neck, respiratory tract, cervix, and rectal cancer. The medicine is also indicated for use to manage recurrence of bladder cancer following transurethral resection (surgery) in affected individuals. MITOMYCIN 40 INJECTION is not recommended for use in patients allergic to Mitomycin. It is also not recommended for use in patients with pancytopenia (reduction in all types of blood cells), leukopenia (reduction in isolated white blood cells), thrombocytopenia (reduction in number of platelets), acute infection, and/or perforation in the bladder wall. Before administering MITOMYCIN 40 INJECTION, inform your doctor if you suffer from a bad state of general heath, bone marrow depression, inflammation of urinary bladder, kidney, and/or liver disease. MITOMYCIN 40 INJECTION is generally not recommended for use during pregnancy unless it is clearly necessary. Women of child-bearing potential should use contraceptive measures during and for at least next six months after stopping management with MITOMYCIN 40 INJECTION. The medicine is also not recommended for use in breast-feeding women. How It Works

MITOMYCIN 40 INJECTION works by interfering with the development of DNA (genetic material of a cell) in cancer cells which results in its destruction and management of its spread to different parts of the body thus managing the disease and providing relief from its associated symptoms in affected individuals.

Directions for Use

MITOMYCIN 40 INJECTION will be given to you only by a doctor or a nurse into a vein as an intravenous infusion or into the urinary bladder as an intravesical instillation. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, disease condition and body weight.

Side Effects

SIDE EFFECTS OF MITOMYCIN 40 INJECTIONCOMMON blood disorders such as decreased number of white blood cells (increasing the risk of infections) and platelets (causing easy bruising and bleeding) loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation signs of lung disorders such as shortness of breath, dry cough, inspiratory crackles tiredness, breathlessness, cough skin rashes and irritation of skin palmar-plantar erythema (swelling, numbness and painful redness on palms and soles) inflammation of connective tissue, death of tissue on injection site (after accidental injection in the surrounding tissue) bladder inflammation accompanied with blood in urine painful urination, excessive frequent urination sometimes over the night local irritation of bladder wall UNCOMMON inflammation of a mucous membrane and mucosa of the mouth hair loss fever RARE widespread skin rash Stop receiving MITOMYCIN 40 INJECTION and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects: signs of severe allergic reaction such as faintness, skin rash/red itchy welts, itching, swelling of lips/face, airway with trouble breathing, and/or loss of consciousness signs of severe lung disease such as shortness of breath, dry cough and crackles during breath-in signs of severe renal dysfunction such as decreased urine output, fatigue, shortness of breath fever sores in the mouth high blood pressure pneumonia

Consult your doctor before receiving the medicine. KIDNEYMITOMYCIN 40 INJECTION should be used with caution in patients with impaired kidney function. Consult your doctor before receiving it. LIVERMITOMYCIN 40 INJECTION should be used with caution in patients with impaired liver function. Consult your doctor before receiving it. Drug Interactions

SA. Drug – Drug Interactions: Before receiving MITOMYCIN 40 INJECTION, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines: other cytostatic agents (used to manage cancer) Ex. paclitaxel, cisplatin vitamin B6 (used to manage/prevent B6 deficiency) Overdosage: MITOMYCIN 40 INJECTION will be administered to you only by a doctor or a nurse in a hospital, and so it is unlikely to receive an overdose. However, if you have been administered accidentally a higher dose of medicine you may experience symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, fever, and/or blood disorders.
