Introduction
INTRODUCTION ABOUT INSTAVIL INJECTIONINSTAVIL INJECTION contains Pheniramine which belongs to the group of medicines called Antihistamines. It is used in the management of allergic conditions (such as hay fever, angioneurotic oedema, drug rashes, serum sickness, allergic conjunctivitis, food allergy), conditions of the respiratory tract which involves increased secretions (vasomotor rhinitis, acute rhinitis). It is also used to manage itching skin conditions (such as neurodermatitis, lichen planus, eczema, acute and chronic urticaria, pruritus in jaundice and diabetes, pruritis of the anus or genitals, radiation sickness). It is also used to manage motion sickness and nausea, vomiting and vertigo due to Meniere’s disease (diseases of the inner ear) and other disturbances. INSTAVIL INJECTION should be used with caution in patients having asthma, severe liver or heart diseases, narrow angle glaucoma (increased pressure within the eye) or men with enlarged prostate. INSTAVIL INJECTION should be used with caution in pregnant and breast-feeding women only if clearly advised by the doctor. How It Works
INSTAVIL INJECTION acts on certain receptors called H1 receptors and inhibits the action of a chemical called histamine. This inhibition reduces itching, allergic reactions and reduces the dilation of the vessels leading to less redness and oedema (swelling).
Directions for Use
INSTAVIL INJECTION will be administered to you only by a doctor or a nurse into a vein as slow intravenous injection or into a muscle (intramuscularly). To infants and children up to 12 years of age, the medicine will be given intramuscularly. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and general health condition.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINESDo not drive or use machines if you feel drowsy after receiving INSTAVIL INJECTION. ALCOHOLAvoid consumption of alcohol while receiving INSTAVIL INJECTION as it may increase the adverse central nervous system effects of this medicine. LIVERINSTAVIL INJECTION should be used with caution in patients having severe hepatic disease and your doctor may adjust the dose in such patients. Consult your doctor before receiving it. ALLERGYBefore receiving INSTAVIL INJECTION, tell your doctor if you are allergic to Pheniramine or any other ingredients of this medicine. LUNGSINSTAVIL INJECTION should be used with caution in patients having lung diseases such as asthma. Consult your doctor before receiving it. HEART DISEASEINSTAVIL INJECTION should be used with caution in patients having severe cardiovascular disease. Consult your doctor before receiving it. OTHERSBefore receiving INSTAVIL INJECTION inform your doctor if you have: narrow angle glaucoma (increased pressure within the eye) enlarged prostate Use in paediatrics: INSTAVIL INJECTION is not recommended for use in premature infants and new-born babies. Your child’s doctor may administer the medicine either intravenously or intramuscularly depending upon child’s age. Consult your child’s doctor for advice before administration of INSTAVIL INJECTION.
Drug Interactions
SA. Drug–Drug Interactions: Before receiving INSTAVIL INJECTION inform your doctor if you have received or taking any of the following medicines: monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) such as isocarboxazid, phenelzine (used to manage depression) zolpidem, triazolam, alprazolam, diazepam (used to manage sleep disturbances and anxiety) atropine (used to manage low heart rate and reduce bronchial secretions) other anticholinergic drugs (used to manage nausea and vomiting due to motion sickness (Ex. scopolamine) and parkinson’s disease (Ex. benztropine)) Overdosage: INSTAVIL INJECTION will be administered to you only by a doctor or a nurse in a hospital, and so it is unlikely to receive an overdose. However, consult your doctor if you experience any unusual symptoms such as agitation and convulsions especially in children and hallucinations, restlessness, disorientation in adults.
