Detailed Information

Introduction

INTRODUCTIONFOR IC contains Pentosan polysulphate that belongs to the group of medicines called Anticoagulants. It is used to manage bladder pain or discomfort in interstitial cystitis. Interstitial cystitis is a long-standing painful condition in which the bladder wall becomes painful and irritated. It is characterized by symptoms such as bladder pressure, bladder pain, pelvic pain, and persistent urgency to urinate. Pentosan polysulphate works by strengthening and modifying glycosaminoglycans (a type of complex carbohydrates present in the walls of urinary bladder) which provides relief from painful bladder filling and facilitates proper emptying of bladder thus manageing symptoms of interstitial cystitis. Your doctor may advise you for regular eye examination while taking this medicine. FOR IC is not recommended for use in patients allergic to Pentosan polysulphate and in patients suffering from bleeding problems (other than menstrual bleeding). It should be used with caution in patients with history of retinal or eye problems/aneurysms, haemophilia, gastrointestinal tract problems (such as ulcerations, polyps, or diverticula), hepatic or renal insufficiencies. It is not recommended for use in pregnant and breastfeeding women. It is also not recommended for use in children and adolescents (below 18 years of age). Consult child’s doctor for advice.
