It is used for the replacement of fluid and electrolytes and maintenance of hydration in diarrhea, vomiting and other conditions where there is a loss of water and electrolytes. Sodium citrate is the trisodium salt of citric acid. It works by neutralizing excess acid in the blood and urine. It has been indicated for the management of metabolic acidosis. Electral powder is available in powder form. The entire contents of the sachet should be reconstituted in one litre of drinking water. For the purpose of reconstitution, use only plastic, glass or stainless-steel container.
