Introduction
INTRODUCTIONEBAHIST M is a combination of Ebastine and Montelukast which belongs to the group of medicines called H1 receptor blockers and Leukotriene receptor antagonists respectively. It is used to manage seasonal allergic rhinitis. Allergic rhinitis (also known as hay fever) is an allergic condition caused due to allergens such as pollens, dusts, molds, or flakes of skin from certain animals. It can occur seasonally or year-round and often characterized by inflammation of the inner lining of the nose accompanied by nasal decongestion, repeated sneezing, or a red, watery, and itchy eyes. How It Works
EBAHIST M effectively controls and prevents the symptoms of allergic rhinitis. It contains two medicines namely, ebastine and montelukast. Ebastine reduces nasal congestion, repeated sneezing, nasal itching, and watery eyes by blocking the release of certain chemicals (histamines) in the nasal tract that triggers the allergic reactions. Montelukast reduces inflammation and swelling of the airways by blocking the release of certain chemicals (leukotriene) in the airways that causes inflammation. Together, they reduce the unpleasant symptoms of allergic rhinitis.
Directions for Use
Take EBAHIST M as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition. & PRECAUTIONSPREGNANCYEBAHIST M should be used in pregnant women only if considered necessary by the physician. Your doctor will access your condition and prescribes it to you only if the potential benefits overweigh the risk to the growing fetus. Therefore, inform your doctor before taking EBAHIST M if you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant. BREASTFEEDINGIt is not known whether EBAHIST M can pass through breast milk or not. Therefore, it should be used in breast-feeding women only if considered necessary by the physician. DRIVING AND USING MACHINESDo not drive or operate any machines if you experience dizziness and drowsiness after taking EBAHIST M. ALCOHOLAvoid consumption of alcohol while taking EBAHIST M as it could make you feel dizzy or drowsy. KIDNEYEBAHIST M should be used with caution in patients with kidney problems (such as renal insufficiency). Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it. LIVEREBAHIST M should be used with caution in patients with severe liver problems (such as hepatic impairment or hepatic insufficiency). Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it. ALLERGYDo not take EBAHIST M if you are allergic to Ebastine or Montelukast. LUNGSEBAHIST M should be used with caution in patients with asthma or breathing difficulties. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it. OTHERSEBAHIST M is not recommended for use if you have: phenylketonuria due to the presence of aspartame Before taking EBAHIST M, inform your doctor if you have: any behavior or mood related changes Use in pediatrics: EBAHIST M should be used in children and in adolescents (aged 15 years or older) only if prescribed by the physician. It is generally not recommended for use in children aged below 15 years. However, consult your doctor before taking it. Use in geriatrics: EBAHIST M should be used with caution in the elderly patients. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.
Drug Interactions
SA. Drug-Drug Interaction: Before taking EBAHIST M, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following: medicines used to manage fungal infections (Ex. ketoconazole and itraconazole) medicines used to manage bacterial infections (ex. clarithromycin, josamycin, erythromycin and rifampicin) non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (used for pain relief) Ex. aspirin medicines used to manage epilepsy (Ex. phenytoin, phenobarbital) gemfibrozil (a medicine used to manage high blood cholesterol levels) Overdosage: If you or anyone else accidentally took more EBAHIST M, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose might include abdominal pain, sleepiness, thirst, headache, vomiting, and hyperactivity.
