Introduction

DIOMINIC TABLET contains Dexchlorpheniramine which belongs to the group of medicines called Antihistamines. It is used to manage perennial, seasonal allergic rhinitis, vasomotor rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis, mild uncomplicated allergic skin manifestations of urticaria and angioedema (swelling underneath skin). Allergic rhinitis is a diagnosis associated with a group of symptoms affecting the nose caused by irritation and inflammation of the nasal membrane. These symptoms occur when you breathe in something you are allergic to, such as dust, pollen or animal dander. Symptoms are sneezing, itchiness and a blocked or runny nose. DIOMINIC TABLET may provide relief from itching caused by skin conditions such as allergic eczema, pruritus ani, pruritus vulvae, atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, insect bites, dermographism and medication reactions (serum sickness). Before taking this medicine DIOMINIC TABLET inform your doctor if you have liver, kidney or heart disease, glaucoma (increased pressure in the eye), enlargement of prostrate, hyperthyroidism or seizures. DIOMINIC TABLET should be used in pregnant women only if clearly needed and should not be taken during last 3 months of pregnancy. It should be used with caution in breastfeeding women as it passes through breast milk. Consult with your doctor before taking DIOMINIC TABLET. DIOMINIC TABLET acts by inhibiting the effects of histamine, a naturally occurring chemical in the body which is responsible for causing the allergic symptoms.

Directions for Use

Always take this DIOMINIC TABLET as prescribed by the doctor. Swallow the medicine as a whole, do not crush or chew. Your doctor will prescribe the right dose and frequency depending on your age, body weight and severity of infection.

ALCOHOLDo not consume alcohol while taking DIOMINIC TABLET as it may cause drowsiness. KIDNEYDIOMINIC TABLET should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Consult your doctor for advice. LIVERDIOMINIC TABLET should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Consult your doctor for advice. ALLERGYTell your doctor if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to Dexchlorpheniramine or any other ingredients of this medicine. HEART DISEASEDIOMINIC TABLET should be used with caution in patients with heart problems. Consult your doctor for advice. OTHERSBefore taking DIOMINIC TABLET, tell your doctor if you have: narrow-angle glaucoma stenosing peptic ulcer enlarged prostate gland bladder neck obstruction pyloroduodenal obstruction hypertension (high blood pressure) hyperthyroidism seizure Use in Pediatrics: DIOMINIC TABLET is not recommended for use in children below 2 years of age. Consult with your child’s doctor before giving it to your child. Use in Geriatrics: DIOMINIC TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients (above 60 years of age). The elderly may experience paradoxical excitation, dizziness, sedation, hypotension, central nervous system side effects and confusion. Consult your doctor for advice.

Drug Interactions

SA. Drug - Drug interactions: Before taking DIOMINIC TABLET, inform your physician if you are taking any of the following medicines: zolpidem, triazolam, midazolam, phenobarbital (used to induce sleep) opioid analgesics such as tramadol, fentanyl (used to manage severe pain) amitriptyline, imipramine, isocarboxazid (used to manage depression) oral anticoagulants such as heparin (used to manage blood clot) Overdosage: If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of DIOMINIC TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdosage include central nervous system depression, apnoea, arrhythmias, cardiovascular problem, cyanosis, diminished mental alertness, sedation, convulsions, hallucinations, insomnia, tremors, ataxia, blurred vision, dizziness, hypotension and tinnitus. Symptoms of overdose in children are dry mouth, fixed dilated pupils, flushing, gastrointestinal symptoms and hyperthermia.
