Introduction

INTRODUCTION ABOUT COLIHENZ INJECTIONCOLIHENZ INJECTION contains Citicoline which belongs to a group of medicines called Psychostimulants. COLIHENZ INJECTION is used in adults to manage disturbances of consciousness that occurs due to head injuries, brain operation, and acute cerebral infraction. COLIHENZ INJECTION is also used to manage Alzheimer’s disease (brain disease that affects memory and thinking skills) and memory loss due to Parkinson’s disease (age related degenerative brain condition). It is also indicated for use in the recovery phase of cerebral infarction (poor blood supply to the brain) in affected individuals. COLIHENZ INJECTION is not recommended for use in patients allergic to Citicoline. How It Works

COLIHENZ INJECTION works by increasing the synthesis of phosphatidylcholine (chemical that produces acetylcholine, responsible for memory and other bodily functions) which leads to improved cerebral function and cognitive function in Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease. It also works by repairing neuronal membranes and damaged cholinergic neurons via potentiation of acetylcholine production and reduction of free fatty acid accumulation at stroke-induced nerve damage site which results in the management neuronal cell death thus helping in the recovery phase of cerebral infarction in affected individuals.

Directions for Use

COLIHENZ INJECTION will be given to you only by a doctor or a nurse into a vein as an intravenous infusion or into a muscle as an intramuscular injection. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

Side Effects

receiving COLIHENZ INJECTION are diarrhoea, nausea, stomach pain, rash, insomnia (sleeplessness), and/or occurrence/intensification of numbness. Consult your doctor if any of these symptoms worsens. Warnings & Precautions

& PRECAUTIONSPREGNANCYCOLIHENZ INJECTION should be used with caution during pregnancy only if it is clearly necessary. Inform your doctor immediately if you get pregnant while on management with COLIHENZ INJECTION. Consult your doctor before receiving the medicine. BREASTFEEDINGCOLIHENZ INJECTION should be used with caution in breastfeeding women only if it is clearly necessary since it is not known whether the medicine passes through breast milk. Consult your doctor before receiving the medicine. DRIVING AND USING MACHINESDo not drive or operate any machines until the full effect of COLIHENZ INJECTION is known. ALCOHOLAvoid consumption of alcohol while receiving COLIHENZ INJECTION because it might the effect of the medicine. KIDNEYCOLIHENZ INJECTION is not recommended for use in patients with severe kidney problems. It should be used with caution in patients with mild to moderate kidney disease such as renal impairment. Consult your doctor before receiving the medicine. LIVERCOLIHENZ INJECTION should be received with caution in patients with liver disorders. Consult your doctor before receiving the medicine. ALLERGYDo not receive COLIHENZ INJECTION if you are allergic to Citicoline, and/or any of the other ingredients of this medicine. OTHERSCOLIHENZ INJECTION is not recommended for use if you: are hypertonic (muscle overactivity) suffer from persistent intracranial haemorrhages (persistent bleeding inside the brain) Before receiving COLIHENZ INJECTION, inform your doctor if you: have a history of epilepsy/fits suffer from depression are scheduled for a surgery have trimethylaminuria (fish odour syndrome) Use in Paediatrics: COLIHENZ INJECTION should be used with caution in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years) only if it is clearly necessary. Consult your doctor before receiving the medicine. Use in Geriatrics: COLIHENZ INJECTION should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged above 65 years). Consult your doctor before receiving COLIHENZ INJECTION.

Drug Interactions

SA.Drug - Drug interactions: Before receiving COLIHENZ INJECTION, inform your doctor if you are receiving any of the following medicine: levodopa, carbidopa, entacapone (medicines used to manage Parkinson’s disease) meclofenoxate (used as a dietary supplement to manage dementia) Overdosage: COLIHENZ INJECTION will be administered to you only by a doctor or a nurse in a hospital, and so it is unlikely to receive an overdose. However, consult your doctor or nurse if you experience any unusual symptoms.
