Detailed Information

Introduction

BETHANEVAC 25 TABLET is used in the management of urinary retention (inability to empty the bladder) following an operation or after giving birth or other health problems (such as brain, spinal, or nerve problems) and is also used to manage reflux esophagitis (inflammation of the esophagus due to backflow of stomach contents into the esophagus). BETHANEVAC 25 TABLET contains bethanechol, which belongs to the group of medicines called Cholinergic agents. It works by making the contraction of urinary bladder muscles sufficiently strong to initiate urination and empty the bladder. It also stimulates motility, increases the tone of the stomach, and often restores impaired rhythmic peristalsis (wave-like muscle contractions that move food through the digestive tract). BETHANEVAC 25 TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with gut or heart problems, asthma, fits, parkinsonism, or if you have had recent surgery on your stomach. BETHANEVAC 25 TABLET should be used with caution in patients taking certain medicines for heart problems, as a critical fall in blood pressure may occur. BETHANEVAC 25 TABLET should be used with caution by pregnant and breastfeeding women only if clearly advised by the doctor. It is not recommended for use in elderly patients (above 70 years of age).
