ASCORIL SF EXPECTORANT is a combination of ambroxol, guaiphenesin, and terbutaline. Ambroxol improves mucus transport by breaking down acid mucopolysaccharide fibers and making the sputum thinner, less viscous, and therefore more easily removed. Guaiphenesin increases respiratory tract fluid, reduces the viscosity of tenacious secretions, and acts as an expectorant. Terbutaline predominantly stimulates beta 2-receptors (this is a kind of receptor present in airway smooth muscles), thus producing relaxation of the bronchial smooth muscle. When the medicine is given in combination, it makes breathing easier and relieves the discomfort.
