Introduction
INTRODUCTION ABOUT ACNEDAP GELACNEDAP GEL contains Dapsone which belongs to the group of medicines called Sulfone antibiotics. It is used in the management of acne vulgaris (a skin condition that occurs when the hair follicles are blocked with dead skin cells, bacteria and sebum). The most common symptoms of acne vulgaris are pimples, redness, blackhead and white heads. Before using ACNEDAP GEL, inform your doctor if you have glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency, methemoglobinemia (a type of blood disorder) and if you are using other products including cosmetics or medicines applied to the skin. ACNEDAP GEL should be used during pregnancy and breast-feeding only if clearly advised by the doctor. Consult your doctor before using the medicine. This medicine is not recommended for use in children (younger than 12 years of age). ACNEDAP GEL should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 65 years and above). How It Works
ACNEDAP GEL works as both anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory agent in the management of acne vulgaris. As an antibacterial agent, it works by inhibiting the synthesis of folic acid which is necessary for the growth of bacteria. Thus, stops the multiplication of bacteria. As an anti-inflammatory agent, it decreases inflammation and heals the breakout.
Directions for Use
Always apply ACNEDAP GEL as directed by your doctor. It is for topical use only. Apply a thin layer of this medicine to the areas of your skin that have acne. Avoid contact with eyes, mouth and mucous membranes. Rub the medicine gently and completely. Wash your hands after applying ACNEDAP GEL. Your doctor will decide the duration and frequency of this medicine depending upon severity of the condition.
Side Effects

OTHERSACNEDAP GEL is not recommended for use if you: have congenital or idiopathic methemoglobinemia Before using ACNEDAP GEL inform your doctor if you: are using other products including cosmetics or medicines applied to the skin have glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency have history of slate grey or blueish discoloration of skin, mucous membranes, lips and nail beds due to lack of sufficient oxygen in the blood (methemoglobinemia) Use in pediatrics: ACNEDAP GEL can be used in children of age 12 to 17 years. This medicine is not recommended for use in children younger than 12 years of age. Consult your child’s doctor before using ACNEDAP GEL to your child. Use in geriatrics: ACNEDAP GEL should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 65 years and above). Consult your doctor before using ACNEDAP GEL.
Drug Interactions
SA. Drug-drug interactions: Before using ACNEDAP GEL, inform your doctor, if you are taking any of the following medicines: trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole, nitrofurantoin (used in the management of urinary tract) topical benzoyl peroxide (used to manage acne) sulphonamides such as sulfadiazine, sulfamethizole (used in the management of bacterial infections) acetaminophen, acetanilide (used to relive pain) nitroprusside, nitrates and nitrites such as glyceryl trinitrate (used to manage angina) benzocaine (used to relieve pain) oral dapsone (used to manage leprosy, dermatitis herpetiformis) pamaquine, chloroquine, para-amino salicylic acid, quinine (used to manage malaria) phenacetin (used to manage fever) phenobarbital, phenytoin (used in the management of fits) Over dosage: ACNEDAP GEL is only for topical use, it is not for oral use. If oral ingestion occurs, consult your doctor or visit the nearby hospital immediately.
